LTT meeting Erasmus+ “Different but together” 2019-1-RO01-KA229-063163
SOUE Plzeň Czech heritage April 26 – 30, 2022
Day 1 In the morning all groups arrived at school. The was programme officially started by introducing the delegations and then there was a welcoming speech of our headmaster and the head of the school department of West Bohemia Region. She introduced our guests the system of education in the CR. The main topic of this mobility is traditional board and outdoor games for children, other traditions and important Czech sights. We could enjoy interesting presentations given by Turkish, Romanian, Italian, Greek and Czech students. We found out that we have some games in common. Then there was lunch in the school dining room. After a short break we played ice-breaking games. In the end students were divided into five international mixed groups to work on project throughout the week. While students were playing traditional Czech board games in their groups the teachers were walking around our school visiting classrooms, labs, PC rooms…. In the afternoon we went to Pilsen city centre where students participated in an activity called City Hunting Game. In their mixed groups and with the help of a map they were supposed to complete some tasks about historical sights of the city. Because of quite a nice weather we invited all teachers for some coffee and cakes to a lovely café on the roof of the hotel in the centre of Pilsen. They could enjoy not only their coffee but an amazing view at the city. We all met again in the evening to have dinner and play bowling.
Day 2
All Erasmus participants travelled to Prague by coach. We started the city tour with a guide. First, she showed us the Prague Castle and all its parts: Royal Gardens, St Vitus cathedral and other buildings of different architecture in this large complex. After we enjoyed the view of the city from the castle walls, we were going down the Lesser Town where the guide also showed us Italian and Romanian embassies. From the Lesser Town, we were walking to the Charles Bridge. On the bridge, there were also several stops to see the statues and other parts of the city. Then, we went onto the Old Town Square where we enjoyed the famous ringing of astronomical clock just at noon. That was familiar to Italian and Greek participants – they also have similar clock in their countries. Our next stop was in the New Town on Wenceslas square. We finished the city tour at the metal sculpture of Kafka’s head near the square. We also went to Wenceslas square. Students and teachers had some free time to buy souvenirs and enjoy the city on their own. Participants could compare history and architecture in Prague with their own.
During the day, all international teams made photos and collected materials for their final presentations.
Day 3
On Thursday all participants enjoyed the trip by coach to the castle Velhartice and to the town Klatovy. We started with the guided tour in the castle. During the tour we could admire the ruins of the medieval castle, the defence tower Putna, the unique stone bridge and the castle brewery. There is also a group of rural houses from the surrounding countryside in front of the castle. The weather was very nice, so the students could spend some time outside with playing the large stone chess and remind the traditional game.
After the tour we continued to the town Klatovy. We were divided into two groups. One group spent some free time in the town and the teamwork continued with collecting materials for the final presentations. The other group visited The White Unicorn Baroque apothecary. During the guided tour we could follow the development of pharmacy from its beginning to 1966 when the apothecary finished its public service. The tour was very enjoyable because of the funny guide, who spoke fantastic English. The first group came to start their tour then and the other went around the town. Participants had the opportunity to see historical places of our region and get acquainted with the medieval history of our country.
Day 4
Friday programme took place in Pilsen. The Czech teachers and students picked up the other participants in front of the hotel and went to the near Franciscan Monastery. There was prepared an educational activity for the students. They learned about medieval Pilsen and did in teams several tasks in the monastery (e.g., building a medieval town, finding clues, etc.). After the tour, all the group took the tram to the hosting school where everyone had lunch in the school canteen.
Then, students stayed in the school to prepare their presentations and teachers went back to the town centre to visit the local brewery, Pilsner Urquell.
The goal of the students’ presentations was to summarise what they experienced in their groups during all the week. They shared the photos they had taken with each other and added them to the presentation. Also, they tried to emphasise the tasks they had assigned to do since the beginning of their stay. Although there were a few problems during their work, the teachers were finally glad that the students mostly managed to accomplish all the tasks.
Then everyone came back to the school for a dinner party. We had a rich feast and a nice chat during the meal. The dinner was followed by a little dance party. The students were really enjoying themselves while dancing, especially when they showed their traditional dances one to another and they were trying to learn some new dancing moves. The teachers were also dancing, and everyone was having a good time.
Day 5
The last day was the culmination of the whole activity. The students showed us their presentations on the topic “What you have experienced during the week in the CR” – experiences, new knowledge, new friends in international teams. The teams emphasized how the team worked, how they divided the tasks and how they worked on the presentations. The aim of the task was to teach students to work in international teams, improve their knowledge, ICT skills and presentation skills. At the same time, the participants remembered what they had experienced and what they had learned throughout the week.
Another item on the agenda was giving the certificates of attendance and evaluation of the activity. In the end, the Czech teachers prepared Kahoot! Quiz for the students to review interesting facts of the week and so they introduced a modern teaching application to their foreign colleagues.
The final point was a group photo and a farewell of all participants.
